“The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Tolkien always says it best! I’ve been doing a lot of exploring the past couple days, since the weather has been great. There are so many trails to choose from in this area, and I’m someone who wants to see what is around every single bend, so I usually end up taking lots of side paths to see where they lead. Wellington seems to have an infinite number of side paths, which just reaffirms that I chose the right city. Tuesday, I headed towards Makara Peak on the skyline walkway.
Now, I truly understand why they call this city “Windy Welly.” There were gusts up to 30 mph, according to the Weather Channel, and I don’t doubt that for a second. Still, nothing can deter me from a good hike, knowing the views Wellington always has in store. The winding path up Makara Peak is also a mountain bike trail, but I can’t imagine biking it. Kiwis do extreme outdoor sports like nobody else on earth!
I found a great spot to rest before turning back towards Karori.
Next up, I’ll take you along on my hike towards Mount Kaukau yesterday. I think I found the Shire!
AND, I found a flat in Brooklyn that I will be moving into this upcoming weekend. Check out the view from the porch! Couldn’t be happier.
